As the new year begins, everything appears fresh. Beijing, a wonderful city, is  also embarking on an exciting journey. Last night, the 2024 Beijing New Year Countdown, organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, was held at Shougang Park. Yin Yong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Beijing, attended and inaugurated the event.

As night fell, the Shougang Park was illuminated with dazzling lights, marking the start of a fully immersive New Year's event. Approaching midnight, after an exuberant entertainment performance, mayors from member cities of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), including Asti in Italy, Seoul in South Korea, Victoria in Seychelles, and Wellington in New Zealand, extended their New Year’s greetings to Beijing through video messages. Yin Yong, along with Chinese and foreign guests, including Jürg Burri, Swiss Ambassador to China, Ian Marshall, Ambassador of Grenada to China, Mo Gaoyi, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and Sima Hong, Vice Mayor of Beijing, kicked off the New Year countdown. A 60-second countdown video was then played on the big screen, followed by the graceful flight of "Beijing's Elves", the swifts, as they glided towards the naked-eye 3D screen, revealing the spectacular panorama of Beijing's central axis. The audience eagerly welcomed the arrival of the new year amidst the exhilarating countdown.

The event showcased the captivating charm of Beijing, where traditional culture perfectly integrates with modernity, revealing the city as a harmonious and livable place where its residents enjoy a vibrant and colorful lifestyle. It conveyed the city's full confidence in embarking on an exciting journey in the new era and making its contribution to Chinese modernization. Leveraging the strengths of Shougang Park as both an industrial site and a Winter Olympic legacy, with a wealth of commercial space, cultural and tourism resources, the event created a fully immersive New Year celebration that attracted citizens to visit for photo opportunities and leisure shopping.

Mu Peng, Secretary General of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the event.
